Crafting and refining

Signs of Life has several ways to turn materials into tools, food, and gear. Exact ingredients and outputs live on the generated recipe and item pages — use those when a number matters.

Crafting stations

  • Hand crafting / inventory recipes — early tools and camp gear without a bench.
  • Crafting tables and specialized stations — open the station UI, pick a recipe you know, and supply ingredients from inventory or nearby containers.
  • Refining / grinding — some materials need a refiner or grinder rather than a craft table. Grind recipes appear in the recipe reference alongside craft recipes.

If a recipe will not start, check reach distance, known-recipe unlocks, and whether the station is powered or fueled when the page says it must be.

Learning recipes

Many recipes stay hidden until you unlock them (stations, story progress, or finding an item). The reference wiki lists what the game data knows; it does not always mean every character has unlocked that recipe yet.

Tips

  • Search the wiki for an item name, then follow Used in / Crafted from links on the item page.
  • Carry a spare pick and axe — crafting gates often assume you can gather the listed materials in the field.
